The Moon

As much as you cling to the idea

Of being the one who got away,

That ship sailed

When I kissed the girl who was forced to leave.

Because in spite of calamity,

She never denied our love.

And even now,

She stands up to the people who attempted to drown her.

And her strength and honesty

Rival those of Mother Nature herself.

Still, you are significant,

But a single flower pales in comparison to the dynamic sky.

And maybe one day you’ll find another flower

Who will bloom with you in beautiful imperfection.

For me, I will trudge along,

Searching for the moon.
