Pathway of Love: Beginnings

Rapture,

is what you bring,

Sailing me along,

On the Ocean of Life.

Taught that

love conquers all,

need another breeze,

to get us along.

Your sails are up,

but the wind blows

against us,

fighting every moment.

Grab on, hold on,

It's a rocky ride,

Turbulent,

Soon over.

I'm tossed over,

and I'm reaching out,

No life saver,

And you sail

for calmer waters.

Gasping,

Screaming,

Drowning

in this Ocean.

Where is the life line?

The golden rope,

eternal bond,

and lasting love?

You've sailed away

to calmer waters,

And I'm drowning,

in my tears.

Chest torn asunder,

Sea salt burning,

and as I stare

from the shore

I watch myself

Drown.

Author's Notes/Comments:

This is what I would call the first experience of love, or what younger people would expect love to be.  Complete obsession, total idealistic of the future which tends to quickly falls apart and along with it at least one of the lovers.

Written as part of a project for Ha Jin's Waiting. This would be symbolic of the way Manna and Mai Dong's experience went in the book in the perspective of Manna.
