WHILING AWAY TIME ON A DARK, MOONLESS NIGHT...

It will be a moonless night

Tonight

And my beloved too is out of sight

Not right

How am I going to while away

The stretching moments that elongate

Like a leech, sucking my liver and heart

I think I will have to go to the tavern

And share an evening with my Saqi*

And blame nobody or say a word

About my loneliness thwarted by

Drinks of wisdom and the deep fountains

Of comforting understanding dipped in a healing gaze

Of utmost soothing sweetness...

So this evening which threatens me

Needs to be killed with the help of drinks

And the welcoming doors of my Saqi's tavern.
