Death looked me in the eye once
He asked me “Why does man cower at my sight?”
At first I had no reply but the obvious
"We fear our end, like anything else."
He took this in silence I thought I angered him
Suddenly he spoke “But what of you?
Here you are standing tall, talking to me even.
Do you not fear Death?”
Now I had no reply at all, then it came to me
“There are men who seek death until
It comes for them and there are men who hide
From death till it finds them. Then both
Fear they haven’t had enough time or done
Enough with it. Me though I know I will
Die some day and all I can do is accept
It however it may come. For now I’ll do
What I have to and try in the process to do as
I want as well. You come collect me when you want.”
Death looked me in the eye once and I smiled.
