Father George Tyrell - Jesuit

Dear Reverend Father Tyrell we salute!

And all the noble goals that you pursued!

My rhyme’s unworthy of your goals sublime,

So far ahead of your allotted time.

Battling for fresh ideas valiantly,-

Rebuffed, and censured by the hierarchy;

You Father Tyrell who gave men new hope,

Anathemized by hierarchy and pope.

We know dear father how you agonized,

Cut form community - just like the Christ,

And just like Him thrown  out and overboard,

Cut-off, just as they treated our  Lord.

When He was crucified on Calvary,

Cut-off, anathemized upon a tree,

You Father with your heart so kind and large-

Thrown overboard from Peter’s shaky barge.

But you do live in  our memory,

For grateful ever is the laiety,

That curses not, but blesses and holds fast

On blessings you bestowed  and ever last.

For suffering like Christ - like Him - cut off,-

Be crowned by Him to glory in His love!

Pray for the blind struck that anathemized,

And for us all before the throne of Christ
