Kachori Shop

The friendly neighbourhood "kachori" shop

Selling piping hot 'kachoris' and potato curry

People don't get impatient waiting long minutes

It's a Sunday they're in no great hurry

Bare wooden benches and tables

Seated the hungry in-house eaters

Well-to-do on motorbikes wait

Sitters get first service though of Lesser God

Savouring refreshing 'kachori' and curry

Summer morning has them sweating

The jeans and tee shirt clad

Don't complain they're patiently waiting

Sales counter with a glass case in front

Displaying sweetmeats cheap but delectable

It's a melting pot of differences

Buying 'kachoris' there widens my senses

Author's Notes/Comments:

'Kachori' = Small flour 'chapattis' fried in vegetable oil.The 'kachori' shop is a minute's walk from my home.I oft enjoy the food for breakfast. The owner oft forgets how many 'kachoris' one has eaten & depends on the eater's version Laughing

Indian Eggrolls

Delight is the word to describe learning about another culture and the favorite foods. Lesser God? There is a movie and possibly a book named "Children of a Lesser God" - I never saw or read it, but now I understand the reference more because of your poem - thanks ~allets

Children of a Lesser God

Children of a Lesser God was written by Mark Medoff & made into an American movie in 1986.The original idea is from Tennyson "Idylls of the King" I have sent the quotation in PM.
