Greedy Fox.

Greedy Fox.

Many Fairies want the Fox family to be banned from Fairyland. Many birds build their nests in low bushes and it seems that the Fox is springing up into the bushes and robbing all that is in the nests. That the Fox takes a chance every time he goes to the Farmyard to steal a nice plump hen is well known to all in Fairyland after all he makes no secret of his stealing. The Farmer and his Son both carry loaded shotguns with them when they are working on the fields and both are excellent shots. It is the Fox that risks his life for the hens he steals.

To start stealing eggs and young fledglings was too much for not only the birds but also all that love to listen to the birds singing. I was asked to attend the discussion that was to take place in the clearing by the old oak tree. I arrived in good time and took a seat on one of the toadstools that had been specially made for me by the Fairies. One after the other the Fairies arrived then the Fox with his wife the Vixen with them they had seven of their new cubs.

The discussion started by the Wise Old Owl telling the Fox that it should be ashamed of itself for robbing the birds nests not only for the eggs but also the young birds that were just starting out in life. The Fox replied that with such a large family to feed he must get his food wherever he could find it. This upset the birds that many of them flew at the Fox and attacked him with their beaks. This was no way to hold a discussion and I sprang up immediately to protect the Fox and his Wife the Vixen. Not one bird had attempted to peck the young cubs.

The discussion went on by one bird after another having its say in the matter. It seemed that no agreement was going to come out of this discussion and I asked the birds to wait and listen to what the Fairies had to say on the matter. The Fairies were very angry and many said that the Fox with its Family should be banned from Fairyland. This I thought was a little too drastic and I said so. Looking hard at the Fox and his wife the Vixen I said that robbing bird’s nests for food had to stop at once. I then asked the Fairies if they could at least help with magic. Perhaps one meal a day for the Vixen and the cubs the Fox must fend for itself. The Fairies agreed and now the Fairies feed the Vixen and the cubs regularly. The sly old Fox is still going to the Farms for the odd hen and eggs but the birds nests in Fairyland are now left in peace. Bern.
