Strange things are happening in Fairyland. Many Fairies only whisper to each other. Secretive and knowing glances go around it is very disturbing. I asked one of the Fairies what was happening why the secret glances the hushed whispers. I was not very happy with her answer. Some Fairies have formed a club no one is allowed to join until they have proven that they can do something exciting and dangerous. I was now very concerned something exciting and dangerous, what was Fairyland coming to? Now I was on my guard and watched all Fairies very carefully to see what silly dangerous exciting thing it was that they had to do to join this exclusive club.

Nothing happened during daylight it must be something that took place in the hours of darkness. But what is it that a Fairy has to do to join the club. I took to sleeping during the daytime and patrolling Fairyland at night. I saw nothing suspicious. The fox made its rounds, as did the weasel, the stoat and other wild animals. Apart from the cry of a night bird hunting nothing took place that I could see. More and more Fairies are whispering and acting very strangely the club is growing.

It was a Pixie of all people that gave me my first clue. Mischievously she told me to stay at home if I wanted to find out what the fairies were up to. Do not go out into Fairyland, Fairyland is coming to you and with a naughty smile she ran off satisfied that she had caught my attention. That evening I pretended to go to my bed. Switching off my bedside lamp I crept quietly downstairs and sat in my old armchair. I did not have to wait long. A Fairy using her magic wand came into my kitchen went to the larder and took a packet of ginger snaps. She left as quietly as she had come. In a few minutes another entered my kitchen by magic bringing with her the packet of ginger snaps that the other Fairy had taken.

The initiation ceremony was to enter my house and take a packet of biscuits, which the next Fairy had to return. This in my eyes was a silly and stupid thing to do. There was nothing dangerous in what the Fairies were doing. If the Pixie had not told me to stay at home I would never have known what the Fairies were up to. I decided to place all of my ginger snaps up to my bedroom it is cool in the bedroom and packets would take no harm standing on my chest of drawers. That night I went to bed and dropped off into a light sleep. Nothing happened. The next day walking through Fairyland many of the Fairies gave me a look that I could have taken as an insult but I only smiled. The Fairy club has fallen apart the ceremony of taking ginger snaps from my larder and then replacing them I had put a stop to by putting the ginger snaps in my bedroom.

The Pixies are teasing the Fairies about their club that was so secret that everyone knew about it. I decided to mix in to stop any more embarrassment on the part of the Fairies. I made a suggestion. Form not one club but many clubs. One could be for singing and you could form a choir. A club for embroidery would be another good thing. Some of you could form a club for poetry. Or what about a club for theatricals? Let me know what you decide to do. I will help you all with what you might need. I still have gold left given to me over the years by Her Majesty. I have never used it and would be glad to help you with your different clubs.

The first club to be grounded was an embroidery club all were welcome. I went into town and bought fine needles and different silks and threads. The next club to be formed was the Theatrical club. Once again into town and I bought many play scripts mostly amusing. These scripts I put through my scanner and printed them out so that each club member had his or her own copy. Small notebooks for the new poetry club with a fountain pen each were my help to the Poets. The last club was the singing club. Many Fairies joined this club and the Toad Orchestra played music. Here again I bought sheets of music from the old master such as Chopin, Brahms, Mozart and Mendelsohn, Gilbert and Sullivan and others. Soon many people on the heath at Dartford thought that some people had turned on their radios very loud; strangely enough most stopped to listen to this music and singing.

The clubs were a great success and many a competition took place with either Her Majesty or myself acting as judge. Poetry was a great favourite and even I had to blush at some of the romance written down on paper. Bern
